What is a Search Angel?

What is a Search Angel, How to Find One, and Books to Read Before Reunion

Over at our Adoption Constellation Search and Reunion Support Group on Facebook, I receive numerous requests for help with adoption search and requests about how to find search angels. The good news is search angels, though they are magical miracle workers, are also real people who are eager to help with your adoption search, if you know where to look. Below you will find an explanation about what a search angel does, a list of several search organizations, and a list of books to read as you prepare to begin your search.

What does a Search Angel do?

A Search Angel plays a crucial role in adoption search support, helping individuals reunite with birth parents, adoptees, and other relatives. These dedicated individuals form networks and organizations that provide personalized assistance, access to databases, and expert guidance throughout the adoption search process. Whether through document research, DNA analysis, or emotional support, search angels help adoptees, donor-conceived and birth families trace their biological roots and facilitate adoption reunions.

With expertise in adoption search techniques, genetic genealogy, and record retrieval, search angels use various resources and tools to uncover family connections. Some even specialize in using DNA testing to establish biological relationships, and can navigate genetic genealogy databases to interpret results. Search angels also offer emotional support and create a sense of community through support groups and online platforms.

By leveraging their knowledge and network, search angels assist individuals in finding their birth families, tracing their lineage, and unraveling the mysteries surrounding their relinquishment or mystery donor journey. Through their dedicated efforts, search angels bring hope and resolution to those seeking to reunite with their biological relatives. If you’re embarking on an adoption search, contact a search angel and take advantage of their expertise and resources to enhance your chances of a successful reunion.
